Remembering 911

Tolling of the Reily Bell on September 11 to honor the fallen firefighters and emergency responders

In a fitting tribute to those who perished on 9/11/01, the bell at the Pennsylvania National Fire Museum will be tolled on September 11, of each year. This tribute is designed to mark and remember all the tragic events of that fateful day. The Reily Hose Fire Co. No.10 bell,  which has  hung in the bell tower for over 110 years and is now part of the Pennsylvania National Fire Museum, will be tolled for one minute  for each of the six major events of the day.  Following these one minute tolls the bell will ring out 343 times at five second intervals to honor the 343 Firefighters of FDNY that perished.

1.      0847 hours, Flight #11 strikes the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

2.      0903 hours, Flight #175 strikes the South Tower of the World Trade Center.

3.      0938 hours, Flight #77 strikes the Pentagon.

5.      1003 hours, Flight #93 crashes in Shanksville, PA

         6. 1028 hours, the North Tower of the World Trade Center collapses

At 1030 hours the solemn tolling of the bell will begin every five seconds for 343 FDNY firefighters.

After the tolling of the bell 343 times for the FDNY firefighters there will be a one minute pause in the tolling of the bell, the bell will then be tolled for these additional first responders that lost their lives at the World Trade Center:
